Golden rules of pain control - Archived
- Always use oral formulations where possible.
- Use appropriate adjuvants at all stages.
- Do not rotate medications within a step; move on to the next step if pain is no longer controlled (the exception is at Step 3).
- Major opioids should never be prescribed solely ‘as needed’. They should always accompany background major opioids given regularly.
